Psychosocial Services
Individuals diagnosed with neurological disorders often suffer from psychological problems either due to structural changes in the brain or due to the physical disability imposed on them which ultimately limit their social functioning. Further the family members or the caregivers of the individual also face a huge burden because of tiresome activity of constant caregiving and support for the individual and thus are in a high risk of suffering from psychological turmoil.
With the above facts in mind the Department of Neurorehabilitation, Institute of Neurosciences Kolkata has been providing psychosocial services to the patients and their families. The Psychologist cum Rehabilitation social worker in the INK rehabilitation team provides and monitors the following services to deal with the emotional and social deficits of the patients:
- Holistic psychosocial assessment followed up by individual psychotherapy and counseling
- Cognitive Rehabilitation Therapy
- Family counseling
- Couple counseling
- Vocational counseling
- Referral to various community service providers such as special schools, daycares, vocational training centers, NGOs working in the field of disability etc. according to the felt needs of the individuals under treatment.

- B.Ed Special Education (Intellectual Disability) from the National Institute for the Empowerment of a person with Intellectual Disability under West Bengal State University,(R.C. Kolkata) in 2019.
