Director of Stroke Medicine, Stroke Specialist and Senior Consultant Neurologist
Prof. Jayanta Roy has achieved his bachelor degree (MBBS) in medicine from National Medical College, Kolkata in 1991. He completed his post graduation in Internal Medicine (MD) from S.C.B. Medical College, Cuttack in 1997 followed by his Neurology training from Bangur Institute of Neurology, Kolkata and was awarded his specialty degree in Neurology (DM) from University of Kolkata in 2001. His subspecialty is Stroke and he completed a two-year post doctoral fellowship training from University of Calgary, Canada.
During his fellowship, he was also trained in Neurovascular Ultrasound (Transcranial Doppler) and became a certified Neurosonologist accredited by American Society of Neuroimaging.
Presently, he is the Director of the Stroke Program at the Institute of Neurosciences, Kolkata, India. He manages a comprehensive stroke unit over there. The first-ever acute stroke management program of the city has been built up under his guidance and planning.
He is an Honorary Professor at Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute (RKMVERI), a deemed University. He also serves as a member of the Executive committee of the Society of Neurosonology, member of the Global Executive of Committee of Mission Thrombectomy 2020, member of the Editorial board of Journal of Stroke Medicine and Annals of Indian Academy of Neurology.
Prof. Roy has an active interest in clinical research in stroke. His area of interest area is young Stroke and Stroke imaging.
