Neuro Psychiatry & Behavioural Sciences

“Dedicated 20 bedded state-of the art Psychiatric unit for patients suffering from mental illness, in addition to the OPD services, which is already operational.  The 20-bed state of the art Psychiatric Wing with modified ECT facility in a super-speciality neurocare setup is the one and only in Eastern India”.

Also we need to mention about the various clinics like Autism, Deaddiction etc. We may include the leaflet matter that was designed for Department of Psychiatry.

This is a neglected part of the nervous diseases and most of the mental disorders are due to disturbance of the neuro chemicals. The following condition will be treated in I-Nk

  • Dementia
  • Schizophrenia
  • Drug Dependency.
  • Cognitive impairment and Depression following head injury or stroke.
  • Mentally disturbed children.

Focus Areas :

Vascular Surgery

The incidence of aneurysm, AVM and stroke are common problems. But in this part of the country the skill and team work is non-existent. Moreover, surgical treatment of cerebral aneurysm and AVM is much cheaper and more durable in skilled hands.

Cerebrovascular stroke is the third-most common cause of death but it is the main cause of prolonged disability, with enormous burden to the society, family and to the victims as well. With modern advances in imaging techniques, the cause of stroke can be diagnosed immediately and if a patient can be treated within the golden hours, many of the stroke patients can recover their paralysis or other severe neurological deficits. Furthermore, it is now well established that there is a better chance for stroke patients to recover from their problems in a specially designed and professionally-operated stroke unit. I-NK wishes to establish this.

Endovascular Surgery

Nowadays, aneurysms, AVM, Vascular tumors or Carotid occlusion can be treated with endovascular methods. Stroke recovery may also be achieved with intra-arterial thrombolysis. The endovascular technique although expensive, can produce excellent recovery in a much shorter than with the open surgery even in skilled hands.

Functional Neurosurgery

This includes surgery for epilepsy, movement disorders, deep brain simulation, intractable pain, drug abuse. Since these types of surgery is nonexistent, it will fill up a void and much desired when medical therapy cannot cure some of such patients.

Paediatric Neurology

Neurological and Neurosurgical diseases of the nervous system in children are not always similar to those in adult. But the care of these children with such problem requires special treatment and expertise. Fostering the discipline of child neurology and promoting the optimal care and welfare of children with neurological and neuro-developmental disorders is a prime objective of I-NK. These disorders include epilepsy, cerebral palsy, mental retardation, learning disabilities, complex metabolic diseases, nerve and muscle diseases and a host of other highly challenging conditions. By designing flagship programs in child neurology and neurosurgery under the guidance of renowned experts from USA, I-NK will provide levels of treatment in pediatric neurology that have never before been available in this part of India.

  • Areas of neurological treatment that are critical for children yet are unavailable, especially to the poor, that I-NK plans to bring in, are:
  • Management of Intractable Pediatric Epilepsy
  • Neuro-endoscopy
  • Pediatric Neuro-oncology with a dedicated Medical Oncology
  • Craniofacial program
  • Skull base surgery center
